Upcoming Events
In an effort to become more artistically active I will be involved in a couple of upcoming events - both fun and exciting.
First, Anthropologie is hosting a “Go Green” event on July 30th on the Country Club Plaza. There is a juried art show that day and the artwork exhibited will be available for sale. www.anthropologie.com
The second event at the end of July/beginning of August is the Wyandotte County Fair. I am teaming up with Jori C. Hebert (owner of J.Bird Studios) to host a booth at the fair! Both of us are extremely excited to show off some of our artwork and wares - as well as promote two fabulous locations in Kansas City, Kansas!! www.wycofair.com
So, if you are looking for an excuse to eat funnel cakes, search the coveted Anthro sale rack, or just something plain fun and interesting to do make sure to mark your calendars!
Hopefully we’ll see you there - Courtney
Coffee Jingle
It’s Sunday morning and all I can think about is a cup of coffee!
Sprucing Up the place!
This past week we’ve been been working on improving the building despite the FIRE (over 1,000,000 gallons of gas when up in flame about a mile away from the cafe) and now FLOODING (the KAW is rising and hopefully it starts to level off).
Let’s not let this dampen our spruce up spirits! Slowly our little spot on Fairfax Trafficway is looking more and more like a eatery rather than an old gas station. We even offer outdoor dining with a great view of the trafficway and the grain elevator across the way - wink wink.
There’s still more work to do but it’s always nice to stop and appreciate the work so far.
Up next… curtains and awnings! Trust me we need the shade.
Fresh Perspective

Summer is here!
Summer is here and things are warming up at the cafe - both literally and figuratively speaking!
Our menu is also changing to fit the season. We still have the staple sandwiches (egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad) but some of the specials have changed AND we can serve ICED coffee drinks - yummy!
The new specials for the week are…
Monday - Mike’s special: curried beef with carrot, onion, and potato wrapped up in a flour tortilla and served with couscous.
Tuesday - Tastee Loosemeat sandwiches
Wednesday - Burgers! Surf (salmon patties) and Turf (ground sirloin patties)
Thursday - Hotdogs and gourmet Pigs in a Blanket
Friday - Tacos with a side of corn salad

Dedicated to Dad - Happy Father’s Day!
THE FIRST WEEK
The cafe has been open for 1 week and 1 day - it has been a blast! All of my customers have been so friendly, nice, and excited that we’re open. There are even a few regulars already. A day at the cafe begins at 6am - it takes between 1.5 to 2 hours to bake everything fresh… but the smell is so good - croissants and coffee - YUM!
I set up a myspace page as a temporary website - here’s the link if you want to check it out.
We plan to celebrate on March 1st (the first saturday of the month). We’ll have brunch - some egg casseroles and coffee and good conversation between friends and family. Come as you are. That means anything from a ballgown to pyjamas are acceptable.
ALSO, when you bump into one Miss. Jessica Hahn, be sure to congratulate her on her recent ENGAGEMENT!!!!!! CONGRATS JESS AND PETE - we are sooo excited for the both of you!
Coming Soon…
It’s official - the “coming soon” sign is on the building. We’ve had several people stop in and ask us questions about the cafe, even a few that think we’re already open! My mantra over the past few months has been, “Slowly but surely.” It’s great to be baking and cooking in the space. And can you believe that everything works?… well, except the roof - and that should be fixed this week weather permitting.
Keep your fingers crossed we hope to be open in the beginning of February. Just in time for Valentine’s day!
Perky’s Pimentos
Aunt Jeanne will not eat the pimento inside of a green olive. This has historical value and is rooted in her childhood… you see Jeanne had a dog named Heidi.
Another dog lived in the neighborhood, his name was Perky. He was a small dog with an affection for Heidi. Jeanne never got over the day that she saw Perky’s pimento go after Heidi. And to this day Jeanne will push all of the pimentos out of her olive in memoriam of Heidi.
